Hi, I'm Jon. I live in the Triangle area of North Carolina. I grew up in Durham and now live in Raleigh. I started this blog in early 2006 originally entitled "Fueled by Scents of Methanol" as a way to document my interest in professional auto racing. I primarily wrote about my experiences and opinions as a fan of the Champ Car and IndyCar Series (both which utilized methanol fuel at the time), Formula 1, sports car racing and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Over time, I decided to make it more of a personal account of all my racing related interests including motorsports, distance running, marathoning and the enjoyment of craft beer with each of them. There was a brief period where this blog was entitled "powered by racephan" referencing my initial blogger, twitter and Smugmug name. The name "beer and racing" was than conceived as my twitter name by a friend who joked I was the authority on all things beer and racing. I decided it was fitting and the blog has gone by that name ever since.

Now, you will likely find most of my posts are related to either running, races I run or motor races I have attended. To date, I have competed in over 55 distance races including 13 half marathons, 4 marathons, 3 sprint triathlons, 2 beer miles, 2 200 mile team relays, a naked 5k (what?!) and an eating quadrathalon team relay. Aside from running and living life, I still make time to attend auto racing events each year. Since 1993, I have attended and photographed dozens of major races including those from the American Le Mans Series, IndyCar Series, Champ Car (CART) World Series, Grand Am Rolex and Continental Tire Series, Formula 1™ World Championship, SCCA World Challenge and Trans Am Series, AMA Superbike, NASCAR Cup, Nationwide/Busch and Truck Series, IHRA, NHRA and SCCA regional series.

I also have a passion for photography. I enjoy taking photos and sharing them with others. Most of the photos on my blog were taken by me and I generally give credit for those that are not.

However you got here, I hope you stick around and enjoy some of my musings about running, races I compete in, grand prixs I attend, my travels and my love for craft beer. From time to time, I'll even blog about upcoming events I think you would enjoy attending. Please consider following my blog via your Google profile and you can also contact me via twitter @beerandracing or by email.
