Last weekend Michelle and I headed over to Greensboro for the 2011 Old Town Beerun (spelled with one 'r'). I ran this race last year with a friend while Michelle and my friend's husband watched. This year, Michelle ran the 5 miler with me while our same friends watched. I just got back to running several weeks ago after taking the majority of the winter off while she has been running in preparation of her first 10k next month and a half marathon later this spring.
Just like last year, the weather in Greensboro was awesome for a mid-March run. It was sunny and warm enough for shorts and a t-shirt. My run went fairly well and I managed to finish about 1:15 minutes faster than last year but about 2:30 minutes slower than the 5 miler I ran on Turkey Day. I had forgotten how many long rolling hills there were on the Beerun and I was concerned how Michelle would do on them as she ran behind me. To my delight, she powered through them all and finished her first 5 mile race under an hour. On top of her time and finish, she looked good at the finish and even let me convince her to have a pint of brew. Old Town Draught House, the event's host which is somehow connected or owned by Natty Green's Brewery served up three of Natty's tasty year-round craft beers, two pints per person at the finish for every 5 miler runner.
Unfortunately, nearly two weeks after the run, our names and times are not confirmed on the Beerun's results at bigfootrunning.com. I have an email in to them about it hoping they update the results but have received no response from them so far.
If you're a runner in the NC Piedmont area, check out Beerun 12 next March and come out for the race. Cheers.
