Raleigh Bike Tour

This past weekend, Michelle and I decided to join friends for another active, outdoor day of exercise and beer appreciation in downtown Raleigh. Susan and Bill joined us for a 10 AM bike ride starting at our place in Raleigh with an expected finish somewhere in downtown Raleigh.

We hit the Raleigh greenway system about 2 miles from our place and rode the Crabtree Creek trail to inside the beltline where we pedaled through neighborhoods off Glenwood Avenue, the Five Points district and Fred Fletcher Park. Exiting the park onto Boylan Avenue, we took Peace Street to our first stop at MoJoe's Burger Joint for a break.

The next segment took us down Peace Street, under Capital Boulevard, through Seaboard Station, by Peace College and through the historic Mordecai neighborhood. We continued into Oakwood and around Oakwood cemetary, by St Augustine College and back down Oakwood Avenue to Blount Street. We toured by the Governor's Mansion and into City Market where we stopped for another break at 101 Lounge + Cafe.

Next destination was the Roast Grill for a famous grilled hot dog with chili which we enjoyed on the owner's front porch before a brief ride to Boylan Bridge Brewpub and the spectacular view of Raleigh's skyline on this now hot and sunny day.
We departed Boylan Bridge with our final stop in mind. After a ride up Hillsborough Street and through the old homes of Park Street, we returned to Hillsborough Street, pedaled up Oberlin Avenue and rolled into Cameron Village for our final stop at Piccola Italia for some well-earned pizza on the patio.

It was a fine way to spend a Saturday with good friends, great weather, a solid 20 miles of biking and a new way to appreciate Raleigh and all that is has to offer.
